A smartphone's interaction with a proximity beacon opens new interaction possibilities for smartphones. I was able to research these interactions using a proximity sensing research platform.
Actions can be triggered based on a smartphone's proximity to another object. In this example, a computer reacts to a smartphone's proximity by unlocking the computer. The smartphone is a representation of the user's identity and authentication.
This demo shows how a game can be created using proximity. A proximity beacon is located within a room and a mobile device's feedback (haptic vibration and proximity indicator) shows how close the person is to the beacon.
